Mindfulness and NIA

Watch my seven-minute Zoom presentation in which I introduce Mindfulness as the first-quarter focus for my 2023 online movement classes, called NIA Dance for Mental Health. Key points:

  • Mindfulness is consciously giving your full attention to the present moment, observing without judging.

  • Mindfulness is not denial or repressing negative emotions. Rather, it allows you to be more fully present for all of your emotions.

  • NIA dance is a sensory movement practice that builds mindfulness through body awareness, guiding you to notice, non-judgmentally, that “Now I Am” sensing or doing…whatever your body is sensing or doing.

You can jump into NIA dance for Mental Health anytime. Simply sign up for a class and, if possible, watch this video beforehand, for context. Sign up HERE.

Even without participating in my classes, you can increase your mindfulness by sensing your body throughout the day - without judging. What does your body sense right now?
