Self-Awareness and Resilience
Resilience is the process of successfully adapting to difficult or challenging life experiences. It's a "process" because we are always getting better at it - and life constantly presents new challenges.
I recently wrote that there are five keys to improving your resilience: self-awareness, self-regulation, optimism, positive coping skills, and social support.
How does self-awareness support resilience? Well, by being aware of how you currently deal with stress and adversity, you can identify changes you could make that would help you be more resilient. For example:
Being aware of how you have gotten through tough times in the past allows you to know your strengths and feel more confident about facing current challenges.
Being aware of your bodily sensations allows you to hear your body's voice - a powerful resource for getting through tough times.
Being aware of how you expend energy allows you to identify possible changes you could make to reduce energy waste and improve overall energy flow.
Being aware of what truly brings you joy allows you to consciously choose to get more joy.
Those somatic self-awareness skills will be our focus in the self awareness section of our Year of Resilience.
